'Mr. Gopaul, aged 49, has pleaded guilty to an information charging him with unlawful
possession of cannabis leaves for the purpose of selling, with an averment of trafficking. On
the basis of his guilty plea I have found him guilty as charged'
During the police search, Mr. Gopaul was caught in his kitchen with a transparent
plastic sachet containing 231.7 grams of dried cannabis leaves.
Cannabis is commonly known as gandia in Mauritius.
I accordingly sentence Mr. Gopaul to 14 years’ penal servitude together with a fine of
Rs. 25,000.
